StartingFromScratch /1:52/ “BẮT ĐẦU TỪ ĐẦU” What does it mean? Leaving familiar boundaries takes us to unfamiliar languages where all is “starting from scratch”, meaning that it communicates through the unknown.
ZAUM /1:20/ This clip draws on the Zaum language and Velimir Khlebnikov’s play Zangezi, where a prophet communes with birds, gods, and the cosmos. Here, the prophet becomes a tree. His followers’ wooden marching spears inform the language of symbols, geometries, and glyphs that were used in the animations conceived for the play. Zaum is an experimental language co-invented by Khlebnikov as a “beyondsense” transrational, anti-language to be found when the languages of Man end in misunderstandings, chaos, and wars. Learning from Khlebnikov Zaum theories is an opportunity to rethink the interdependence of language and representation. The soundtrack by @pascal.lund_jensen is based on text from Plane 9: Thought.
Follower Fallower /1:00/ On a grey day, a walker is on a slow and aimless momentum, following a single path along the flow of a red urban river. Strolling creatures are on her side, as companions or passing externalities. On this path of time, a remote stalker remains behind the trekker. While the trekker is unknowingly being followed, she is consciously fallowing her time. She empties herself of purpose so that something deeper can take root. Within this static temporality, life is rearranging itself, so when ending the fallowing, she can reclaim her own time and perhaps escape her followers. The follower only pretends to fallow as it is mechanically locked to its subject, unable to catch the trekker’s meditations nor the meaning of random events and signals from life all along the path. The follower’s grasp is limited to its field of view and not to its depth of significance. There is a timeless tension here: between the one who rests and the one who is caught in movement. Between visibility and secrecy. Between fallowing and following.
